delivering multiple encodings 2004-03-10 - By stefan - muchos.co.uk
Back hi, how does everyone else handle the following scenario:
You have an app that lets users record video. Now user A has a high speed connection and generates a fairly large flv file. User B comes along on dialup and wants to see that clip... how do you deliver it to her on lower speed connection?
Now I have heard that Sorenson can have watch folders. I know little about Sorenson but am I right in understanding that I could automatically grab the published flv on my server (with sorenson running on my server) and re-encode it at a lower bitrate, maybe even 2 different bitrates?
Likewise (and I have tested this a little) am I correct that I can record high qiality video even on dialup by having a huuuuge buffer? Time constraints aside, does this work reliably? Having a user on dialup recording a file of several MB in size (but having to wait very long for the buffer to empty)?
Thanks
Stefan
