FCS | Breeze

FCS | Breeze

We've built out some spiffy features in FCS and really like being able
to extend it ourselves. I imagine we'll probably keep doing so, although
there is an enterprise-wide installation of Breeze on campus now. When I
test-drove Breeze for the first time, I just wondered what our programmer
and I had expended all the effort in FCS for.
The answer to that question, of course, is that we built features our
people needed with the tool we could get at the time and afford and we gave
our people a feature set and an FCS installation I'm proud of. Since we've
made the investment in time and learning, we'll probably keep using it. I
certainly hope so.
Perhaps we're fortunate to have both FCS and Breeze available to us on
campus (at department and enterprise-wide levels, respectively), but to have
neither forced upon us. In general, we've been thinking about sending our
internal clients who want something standard-issue that Breeze offers to
Breeze, and keeping those who want something customized that we have built
(or can build) in FCS.
I didn't think there was such a thing as Breeze developers, but if
custom pods can be made for Breeze, then  I guess there is.
As to the future of the two products, I've been operating under two
assumptions:
1.  Breeze is preconfigured FCS underneath.
2.  FCS and its developers are the farm team for Breeze.
Perhaps FCS *was* the Breeze farm team for first release of Breeze, but
FCS has served its purpose as such, and isn't going to receive R&D any
longer, which would mean that very shortly, if not already:
1a. FCS is low-rent Breeze.
2a. FCS developers are irrelevant to Breeze.
Of course I'd like to think not. As I say, I'm very proud of what we've
accomplished in FCS and think it meets our people's needs very well.
   Comments?

best to all,
