Back Absolutely!
The 'coolness factor' -
Didn't we all start loving it for it? Where does the 'coolness' come from? The main reason for me is that Flash is simply the best animation and multimedia tool for the web. Exiting visuals combined with very strong scripting possibilities. Has brought us an incredible amount of visual creativity. We have seen worlds in Flash which we have never seen before. And we had a lot of fun with great games.
Almost blushing when saying this, because nowadays it's easily considered as offensive and bad taste to use 'Flash' and 'Animation' in one sentence. Now that 'Animation' is synonimous with bad intros and now that it's not about visuals anymore, but about RIAs. Forget the Flash Player, it's Flash Virtual Machine now.
If Flash is leaving its niche - or not, depending on wether the huge gap between A) how MM and part of the Flash community wants Flash and B) how the rest of the world sees it, can be bridged - I'm afraid that the coolness factor will go down quite a few notches - while the 'me too a serious application developement tool' factor will go up proportionally.
OK, finished ranting, back to coding!
