NES 2004-02-17 - By Carter, Kim K.
Back I know I'm creating this problem in my lack of understanding of how movie clips work. But, I'm only using actionscript when I need to listen for an event. I don't load or unload the movie clips using action script. I'm dragging two movie clips to the main timeline and expecting them to run one after another. The demo is simpler to a slide presentation, with animation. The movie clip works as you stated, but as soon as I add another movie clip to the MAIN timeline, the second movieclip does not play the length of the its timeline, unless I add the additional frames to the MAIN timeline. I haven't seen any samples where there are multiple movie clips directly on the MAIN Timeline without using ActionScript. The samples I've seen, one movie clip is on the main timeline (1 frame) and the other clips are nested or called from Actionscript. I have no problem nesting the movie clips or calling actionscript to load them, I just don't want to make it more complex then it has to be.
Thanks

Kim,
If the movieclip you have runs for say, 20 frames, you should absolutely not need to have a corresponding 20 frames on the main timeline for it to play.
What's your Actionscript look like at that point during the movie?
There is no difference between having an existing movieclip in the library that you drag onto the main stage and taking a single object (such as a jpg, textbox, or whatever) and converting it into a movieclip. Same thing either way ya slice it. (depending of course on whether there needs to be linkage, instance naming, etc.)
