The Alert component already does this, include focus, etc., but here 's a
hack extending off of your Flash 5 way with listener removal:

Just a lazy question really... I want to show a modal alert box to the user
within a Flash app, and in doing so I want to disable all other interaction
on the stage until they have clicked 'OK ' or whatever.
In Flash 5 days gone by, I 'd probably have created an invisible button to
cover the entire stage, with a useHandCursor = false , but I 'm thinking
there 's probably a more elegant way of doing this in mx 2004, possibly
fiddling with the Mouse events or something.
Anyone got a nice way of doing this?
