Hi,

Assume that var1 is in the root and the script that assign a value to the
variable is 3 level down then the script will be:

_parent._parent._parent.var1 = ?voice from underground?;

Subject: [Pro Flash Users] Noob needs help

Hello all,

im having extreme difficulty passing a variable from a movie clip
three levels down back to root. I used these assignments for the
pointer variables when I trace the pointers I get the path to the
variable not the value.

var pointer1:String = _level0.level1.-level2.level3.-var1;
var pointer2:String = this.level1.-level2.level3.-var1;
var pointer3:String = _root.level1.-level2.level3.-var1;

I started this when I realized the my movie was not working like I
planned so decided to do this test, now I realize that my assumptions
about passing variable between movieclips are completely wrong. I have
followed multiple examples online and the syntax seems to be the same
with what Im doing but Im not getting the right result. Please help
this is driving me crazy. If you see some glaring error please let me
know I will gladly mail the experiment FLA its only 4k right now.

Thanks,
Ron
