Lets say the range is from hawaii to iceland:
* Think google earth animation .. pov of the pilots eyes (ie. no plane) flying
from Hawaii to Iceland over a curved globe - you could even use google earth
and screen grab that animation and lay some lines in sync w/ the animation and
viola
or
* Imagine a flat plane and a 3d outline the Hawaiian islands sprouting up from
the horizon.. then the globe turns and you're over a 3d outline of California..
....then colorado.....toronto...newfoundland...yadda yadda.. Underneath is a
text field counting up the amound of miles.. 0 - 10,000 or whatever it is.
or.
An animated graph w/ sliders... There's lots of ways that would look "cooler"
and if you could pull any of the above off using AJAX..my hat is off to you :)

When you say, "supports the information", it leads me to believe that
you are trying to convey more than simply the range of the aircraft.
