Re: Hexagon & C5 modeling. 2006-07-25 - By nickjsky
Back It depends on the type of model you are making. It is true that Hex is more powerful and capable, but it's also more complicated to use, and more buggy. Carrara is much more stable.
Carrara's VM now has many of the basic and intermediate tools of Hex and they function--in my opinion--in a more intuitive manner. But there is no Dynamic Geometry.
Carrara's Spline modeler is a simple Nurbs type modeler, good for basic extrusions. In its own way it has a form of Dynamic Geometry.
Carrara's Metaball modeler does something Hex doesn't: blobby, organic shapes that merge and blend with one another. But that's all it does.
The VM is my preferred modeler unless I'm doing something that requires the advanced tools of Hex. For instance I used Hex recently to model a human face. After the face was mostly done, Hex started to act buggy, so I moved the model into Carrara and did some touch up on the face.
