Welcome (was Re: [Carrara] Re: Carrara group statistics) 2006-06-22 - By Andi Newton
Back Welcome, Gwen! No need to be timid; the folks here are very nice, patient, and helpful. Don't worry about if a question has already been asked; if you need help, just ask. That happens from time to time; not only do folks answer the question, but since it's come up before, sometimes they can point you to a tutorial about it.
And there's nothing wrong with being one of those "dreaded still image Poser converts." I do mostly stills myself, and if it gives you any idea how much I use Poser in my workflow, I wrote the Poser chapter in the Carrara 5 Pro Handbook. (Andi is short for Andrea. <g> ) The fact that the book has a chapter on using Poser with Carrara, and that C5 has a native Poser file importer, is a testament to how many other folks use the two together. So, no shame in that at all. :-)
As you know, this group and Ringo's Hexagon Yahoo group (Hexagonusers) are moving to the DAZ forums once email delivery functionality can be added there. But a lot of the members here have also joined the CarraraFan Yahoo group, which just started since this one is closing down. You might want to check it out, too. Myself, I plan to be a member of this group until it closes, a member of the CarraraFan group as well, and a more active member of the DAZ forums as soon as I can get posts there through email. IMO, you can never have too many places to ask folks for help, show off your work, or just chat about Carrara.
Again, welcome! Andi

As a new user, I joined so I could gather all the information I could in order to learn as much as possible as fast as possible. (I did buy the C5 Pro Handbook.) I lurk unless I have a question that I can't dig up an answer for or a problem I can't solve.
Being new, I'm also a bit timid. I try to be respectful of the time of others and not ask questions that have already been answered. Getting the emails and saving them allows me to build a library, if you will, for furture reference. Then I won't waste anyone's time by asking about things that have already been addressed.
I also realize that I'm coming into Carrara backwards in some respects. I'm not a modeler,I don't currently know how to do animation, which makes me one of the dreaded still image Poser converts.:) Honestly up to this point I didn't have a machine that could handle much else, but I do now. So I have serious plans to learn modeling and animation which is why I bought Carrara 5 Pro and Hexagon 2.
Bottomline, email or no email, I'll follow ya'll wherever you go. I've been a member at Daz for years, just never participated much in their forum, same at renderosity. Here it's different. I want to be active and to see just how far Carrara can go and how far it can take me.:)
Sorry didn't mean to get long winded.
Gwen aka shadowchaser on Daz forum.
