An interesting event-and food for thought

An interesting event-and food for thought

I never thought user groups like these were intended to be "integral in the
development of the application." I thought they were supposed to be a place for
the folks who used the app to communicate with other folks who used the app,
either to ask and answer questions or to share things they've done with it.
Maybe participate in challenges, or take part in discussions about the app.
This group is the first one that I've belonged to -- on Yahoo or anyplace else
-- where the app developers frequented the group, used it to answer user
questions, to post press releases about the company or the app, or get user
feedback. It's been a great bonus; I've really liked having the Eovia guys here
. But, TBH, that's not why I looked for and joined this group. After I bought
Carrara, I searched Yahoo groups for one devoted to Carrara so I'd have a place
to talk to other folks who use Carrara. I figured when I needed to give
feedback directly to Eovia, I'd do that through the feedback form or email on
their website.

I'm guessing the Poser list you refer to is Poser101. Yes, Dave, I remember you
from there. :-) I joined Poser101 to find folks who could help me learn how to
use Poser. Poser101 was a great learning resource for me; it's what inspired me
to start writing tutorials for Poser, Hexagon, Carrara, etc. A lot of the Poser
info that I included in the chapter I wrote for Mike de la Flor's Carrara 5 Pro
Handbook was info about things I'd seen asked over and over by Poser newbies on
that list. Like, how do I get clothes on my Poser figure; or, why does my
figure disappear when I try to add a second one to the scene. (Mike can tell
you, I was pretty stubborn about wanting that stuff in there.) So even though
the Poser dev team isn't on that Yahoo list, even though eFrontiers didn't even
know the list existed, it's still a great resource for the folks who go there.
(Or was while I was there. As you know, I left it awhile back after I stopped
being a newbie. <grin> Still on the PoserNew list, though.)

Personally, I wish much luck and success to any Carrara group, either at Yahoo
or DAZ or the public library or someone's backyard or anywhere else they might
exist. I see no reason they can't all co-exist peacefully. :-)

There was a Poser mail list identical to this, in fact it still exists. It
was formed many years ago when Metacreation sowned Poser. The developers and
others from Metacreations were on the list always....getting ideas from the
community, etc. It was the "official" email list.

As Poser changed hands, the developers stopped attending the list, to the
point just prior to my leaving, I emailed Curious Labs to have the list URL
and description added as a resource to the Curious website.

 Guess what?
The folks there had NEVER EVEN HEARD OF THE LIST...and it was the ORIGINAL
Poser list. That list had no official communications from the Poser staff.

Yes, the list continues, and is a great resource, but you can maybe see my
point..it is basically a hand me down of information flow and not integral
in the development of the application. No direct involvement from the
 developers.

So it can happen with this list as well. Unless the folks here comingle with
the DAZ forums, your voice will not be as loud in the new things happening.

As a member of the DAZ community since its inception, I will say DAZ staff
listens to their customers. The developement of Daz Studio has been
influenced greatly by the feedback of the community, as are the plug-ins for
 it.
