"To good avail" is not the opposite and does not work in English, "with
success" (as boring as it sounds) is, just like hate is not the opposite of
love, rather apathy (since love and hate are equally fanatical in nature and
essentially coplanar). I had this happen too and yes, it is Windows and no
matter how hard you try to associate the icon with Carrara it will not and
in fact, Windows didn't even list Carrara as something to associate it with,
but all is well now after doing exactly what you did.
Good tip, a little late in coming for me though. ;)

Subject: [Carrara] RE : C5Pro, C4Pro

Just an advice.

I installed C5Pro (Awesome, must I say!).
Whan I saw it was working fine, I then uninstalled C4Pro.
Then the icons of .car files became orphans, and I could no longer use the
file association to open them, my computer insisted on using Acrobat... I
tried to reset only the file association, to no avail.
I reinstalled C5Pro, also to no avail (sorry, I love the sound of that
sentence: "to no avail"...)
I had to uninstall C5Pro, then reinstall it, and then it works flawlessly.

I tried to duplicate the 'problem', which is easy, and that all comes to:

First, uninstall C4Pro.
Then install C5Pro.

Maybe only on my machine, but I felt I had to share.
I think it is a windows peculiarity, not a Carrara bug.

Pierre Jett?

Please tell me: the opposite of 'to no avail' is 'to good avail', isn't it?
Please say yes, I will be able to use it more often! ;0)
