I used to use Truespace versions 4 through 6.6. The thing about
Truespace that is better than Carrara is it's modeler. It has alot
of buttons, but once you learn what they all do and all their
siblings it is pretty amazing. I would have given up on 3D without
Carrara and one day working with Truespace it struck me with how to
model. Both programs were important to my development. Truespace was
also the first modeler with a universal manipulator (at least that I
saw) even though it was in a box form and not the three lines
representing a corner.

Carrara has a much better renderer and shader system, so what I
ended up doing was modeling things in Truespace and rendering them
in Carrara. Truespace did a better job with metallics in rendering I
thought, but it took so much longer that it was not worth the
improvement.

Since then I have switched to using Modo and Silo to model. With the
addition of Hexagon tools to the Carrara toolset; that should make
it a nice well rounded package. Hexagon is a pretty nifty modeler. I
just never got as productive with it as I am with Modo.
