You could do all that or just insert a helix, hold down ctrl and turn
the U/M with the left mouse button depressed. :)

 Try this:

 1. Create a cylinder with an even number of sections (ie, 8, 10, 20).
 2. Select all but the top row of vertices.
 3. Rotate the vertices slightly up/down.
 4. Press 4 to switch to the left view.
 5. Rotate the vertices slightly up/down.
 6. Check the cylinder from the front, back, left, and right views to
make sure that the vertices show as rotated in all views.
 7. Click away from the cylinder to unselect the vertices.
 8. Starting with the bottom row of vertices, select every other row of
vertices. For example, the top row should not be selected, the second
one should be selected, the third one not, and so on.
 9. Switch to the top view (press 5).
 10. Rescale the vertices in the X (red) and Y (green) axes until they
are larger than the top row all around the cylinder. They should be
about equidistant around the top row.
 11. Move the vertices in the X and Y axes until they are equidistant
 around the top row.
 12. Switch back to the front view (press 2), and then check the cylinder
from the front, back, left and right to make sure you don't have any
 flat sides.

I used this method to create a screw. I'd be happy to send you the .hxn
file if you want to take a look at it.

 HTH,
 Andi

   Hi All,
Just started using Hexagon and I'm trying to create a screw thread.
I'm having no luck using booleans which I'm not a fan of anyway; has
anyone had any success in creating a thread?
   Thanks in advance,
   Smiler
