You caught me! Yeah, I'm working on a game (one I designed way back
in '85, got the copyrighted board and pieces to prove it too).  A
fairy chess with some significant modifications to plain-old chess.
This effort will also serve(and has already) as a familiarization
exercise with OpenGL and Tcl/Tk.  Scientific visualization might be
considered the ultimate goal(viz of knowledge based inference).

Thanks for the suggestions! I had found the various game libraries &
sites and such but had not thoroughly explored them.  I kinda wanted
to stick to open source/standard software.  Actually I chose Carrara
for that same reason: I figured that since Adobe recommended Carrara
for graphics then since Adobe had become such a black-hole standard
that Carrara would likely get sucked into a tight unbreakable orbit
around it (conceptually and in a business sense).  Adobe might even
buy out Carrara eventually (become "Adobe Carrara").  Maybe thats
just nonsense speculation though.  Some of the signs are there.

The .obj format is looking better. I finally found the right options
on PolyTrans that lets my shader colors from Carrara get through.  I
have already tripped over the right options to get through texture
mapping (which was a bit more than I really needed).  Which is what
prompted me to ask more knowledgeable people about 'a better way.'
I'll twist PolyTran's tail later to get'em to be a little clearer
about the way(s) to use their OpenGL exporter.

Thanks again for the help and for the keywords '3D
modeler', 'OBJ2OGL', 'Milkshape 3D', 'Gamespace' , 'Truespace',
and 'Blender.' You can't pull the string if you don't got no strings.

There are far too many FPS and RTS games about already.  They all
look and smell alike.  Chess is very old, was conceptually based on
very primitive warfare. Things are trickier these days.  This can be
transferred to a related board game. I just hope I don't step on an
intractable combinatorial explosion while on the path to finishing
the game.
