Have you tried some of the game oriented 3D modelers? I assume you're
looking for OpenGL C code to generate the graphics from a program,
perhaps a game, but regardless, a gamedev system probably has that
option. OBJ to C or 3DS to Open gl etc... perhaps a Google search for
filters/converters like OBJ2OGL or similar will get some usable results.

I also immediately think of Milkshape 3D with its numerous export formats.

Instead of VRML 2 you might want to try VRML 1, if that's an option.
There's also a better chance you could then use it with OpenInventor,
if that's in fact an options.

Oh, and there's GameSpace or TrueSpace.   Hm, perhaps Blender too.
That one is free.

I'd recommend saving from Carrara to 3DS or OBJ (Wavefront) and
importing that to any of tose alternates.

What is the ultimate goal, integration into what kind of 3D program?

terrain flyby, architectural walkthrough, FPS game, scientific viz?
