Warning to Poser5 / Tiger Users

Warning to Poser5 / Tiger Users

2005-11-23       - By Craig Cirelli

 Back
Poser 5 crashes *left and right*, under Mac OS X 10.4 (Tiger).

While this is technically OT, I felt compelled to post this after
purchasing Poser 5 (since there are many Poser / Carrara users here).
Luckily I still have one older Mac that's running 10.3 / Panther, but
this still stinks. Should have done some more research, but who knew..?

My major complaint is basically they're saying "Poser 5 is not
compatible under 10.4, we're not fixing it, but hey - you can buy
Poser 6 (which we're working on now, well, even though it's out
already..)."

From their support page:

"While Poser 5 is officially not compatible with OS X 10.4, we have
released an updater to Poser 6 that will resolve the major
incompatibilities that several people have noticed when running
Tiger; a second Service Release should be available at the end of
Summer 2005.

We have successfully opened and rendered scenes in Poser 5 under
Tiger, but doing anything more complex generally causes Poser to quit
unexpectedly. Some users have reported that running the Classic layer
and using its capabilities to assign more memory to Poser 5 has
allowed them to successfully run Poser 5 under Tiger, although this
does require a machine with Classic support and we make no promises
as to this technique's efficacy.

We are working to ensure that Poser 6 has full Tiger compatibility.
Keep an eye on this site for announcements."

That's terrific e-frontier, thanks so much. Especially since I can't
use 6 with Carrara. Sorry for the OT rant, but I don't want anyone
else to run into this problem.
