makes perfect sense, and yes even in earlier versions you can find an
option called 'Show Backdrop' in the Interactive Renderer Settings.
It's that up-arrow mini icon next to the
box/wireframe/flatshade/smoothshade modes along the view windows.
It will let you see the backdrop movie, and update it as you scrub
through the timeline. Hopefully you have a fast system bus and memory
and graphics card. It helps.
