Back There is a book from Mike De la Flor, the Carrara Studio 3 handbook. There's one in the works by Mike for C5. There is none of C4 as far as I know.
I think however that there's plenty of stuff in the CS3 handbook that also applies to C4 so that might still be of interest to you. Especially considering that you pay only for shipping.
Then again, if you get CS3 or C4, there's already such a big manual with it that you may not find the time to read it all before the finished C5 release is available ;-) I find that much of the fun with this program is done by exploring by trial and error. Your mileage might vary though, not everyone has the same feel for the user interface of the program.
As for learning material, there's also the VTC tutorials by Doug Sahlin, and for that you can find them on CS2, CS3 and C4.
