I looked into it a little closer and it appears that the tool stays in "paint"
mode regardless
of which little button I click. Maybe it's a Mac only bug.
I am glad I stuck with Hex after a grueling day. It's getting easier the more I
learn about
the tools and the shortcuts. For those of you still struggling with the switch,
the single
most helpful thing (besides this list) was printing a full keyboard-size
shortcut and taping
it on my desk just below the keyboard.
