Back I did not think Carrara was on the Permissible List of mentionable apps at cgtalk, since they seem to be limited to what the Television and Motion Picture production industry uses.
As to number 1, procedural animations might be something that is Patented. If so, then the Royalties may be excessive, and/or licensing refused. I do not know whether it is or not, just something to keep in mind.
Purplus is a good place to check for Carrara Studio 3 (unopened Retail, New User package).
