On-Topic - How I Just Saved $299...And You Can Too... :)

Okay, okay, this post is not 100% about Carrara, but pretty much
anything that truly helps you save money is always on topic, right? ;)

Well, one thing I wanted to do was to find a way to print my rendered
Carrara images plus other documents in a PDF format.  But I wanted to
do it *without* having to spend $299 to purchase the Adobe Acrobat
Standard software.  [ It's just not in my budget at this time--well,
then again, is it ever in my budget? ;) ].

So I started my typical mantra of, "there's got to be a better way,
there's got to be a better way...", shaking my head profusely as I
stared at the computer monitor [ high price-tag items will make me do
that from time-to-time. ;) ]  Well, I decide to browse Google for Free
PDF writers and wouldn't you know, there are several of them out
there...all for free!  The one I finally chose is called CutePDF
Writer and it seems to fit the bill for right now.  All I have to do
is select it as a printer.  It works with my Word Perfect documents,
Netscape (although some of the fonts are slightly different when it
comes to the html stuff), and it prints from Photoshop just fine,
although I do notice that the PDF's 100% viewable is somewhat larger
than what I see in PS.  But that is liveable, IMO.

I have not been sucessful at printing directly from CS4 or
CS5, but since it works fine with Photoshop, XnView, IrfanView, etc.,
I can live with not having that ability at this time.

So for those who would like to save $299 to convert their CS images
and other documents into PDF files, here is the link to the software I
installed:

CutePDF - <http://www.cutepdf.com/> (free for personal and commercial
use!)

Free Version Download link -
<http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp>

Please note that there is a paid version of the software that contains
more robust features, for $49.95.  I may look into that down-the-road
if I think I may need to do more things with my PDF files, but for now
the free version seems to work just fine.

And here is the link to the page containing other free PDF creation
software.  I chose CutePDF Writer, though, because it had the least
amount of install requirements/steps.

Well, I hope I was able to pass along a savings or two to someone. :)

Cheers.
