yeah what he said.  (where's the smiley for the pointing hand/finger
when you need one ?)

Also, importing into an existing scene (even if an empty one) is safer
than opening the file directly because when you save you might
accidentally override the original dxf file if you're like me and
don't pay attention that is ;-) It's a good habit thus to create a new
empty doc and import the original into it. Plus you'll know you have
at least one light source in there already so it's not all black upon
your first test render. Not sure if your DXF had one.

Double-click the desired object (layer) and convert it to vertex
model. Pretty much anything in Carrara that involves some sort of
geometry during rendering can be converted to vertex form. Try a
tree/plant for example ;-)

Or a sphere from the primitive list.

With the options for importing you should be fine. Otherwise check an
external converter to bring it into OBJ or other forms. Or even back
into DXF but without layers if that's what you want. There are some
pretty amazing converters out there, like AccuTrans for $20 WITH a
fast viewer and some nifty conversion/editing capabilities, I tried it
the other day on a large terrain mesh with a 1024x1024 satellite
picture on it (see the lw3d discussion forum). Took forever to load
but boy what a beauty once it was in.  3Dwin file converter is also
pretty good, but no viewer, and it missed the quad mesh from the
terrain. These are in the $20 - $40 range.

I have a few others listed on my old (but recently updated) list
www.staigerland.com/amapi/obj2amapi.html
Ah the good old days when Amapi didn't import Wavefront OBJ files ;-)
