Back This sounds like the models imported as primatives. Click on a model and enter the modeling room. If you see only a blank whitish box, then it is a primative. You need to use the top menu and convert the model into a vertex model. This operation usually triangulates the models but makes it editable.
Also, you can also start over from scratch and import the DXF into an empty scene. You will have import options and of of those asks rather you want it as a primative or as a vertex model (and has other options for each). Importing this way avoids the triangulation of the mesh.
