Bonjour Claudia,
Well, roughly, it happens that Macromedia found out that drawing nice vector
drawings
for the web would never make them very rich.
They found out that as the Flash plug-in was ubiquitous,
plateform independant, it would be a good base to re-invent a
client-server system that would pass around the current html
limitations.
So they started to pack the flash client (plug-in) with more and more
scripts features (called action-script) and to developp server-side
solutions along that.
In the hand of a skilled programmer, one can draw a complete dynamic web site
without a single html tag (except maybe html, head and body !).
That ties customers to their product just as Microsoft ISS servers
ties customer sto IE, thus to Windows.
Tying customers is just what it needs to make more money.
Flash does still do pretty vector drawings for the web, but is is just
anecdotic anymore in the vision of Macromedia.
Somehow, they retry (consciencously or not) what Netscape failed to do : a
client-side,
web-centric all-in-one solution browser and OS independant that would
ultimately relagate MS Windows to a mere OS among others. Teh true
computer will be the web ; the OS will just serve as the plateform for
the client side.
Now you understand why Adobe baught Macromedia, don't you ?
They could not leave that assets fall in MS hands.
