I have never had anything but good luck dealing through eBay.  You
simply have to pick and choose who and how you deal with people.  For
my own part, I never use Paypal either, not because I don't trust it,
but because I simply don't have a credit card and Paypal will not
allow you to just load money into your account for future use.  I only
buy from folks who will accept a US postal money order as payment.  I
only bid on auctions where after reading the sellers feedback I feel
confident that I will get what I pay for without any hassles.
Feedback is an important part of eBay.

As far as spoofs go, it's really simple.  Never login to anything that
comes in your email that appears to be from eBay.  eBay will NEVER ask
you for your username and/or password to your account...they already
have it, they don't need to.
