Back Wow, I'm kind of shocked to hear Carrara has troubles importing Hex files. I would think that since they are companion products importing would be seamless and 100% accurate. This was always a complaint with Amapi so I would think Eovia would get it right with Hex. Can anyone add more personnel experience here.
I've been learning Hex but have not imported to C4 or C5 yet, I just assumed it would be a no brainier.

So are you saying you smooth partially in Hexagon and then again in the VM to get what you wanted? Or you export from Hexagon unsmoothed and apply smoothing in the VM only at less than 50 degrees?
Also; are you exporting as .car or .obj? I think .obj does a better job so far, but don't know if the .car export has been worked on since 1.2 and also if there's something i'm missing in it because many of the models I try exporting in .car come out so so in Carrara. Smoothing issues, extra surfaces or missing ones etc...Maybe i'm just not that great a modeler yet, but we're working on it. ;)
Thanks for the tip. :)

When I export smoothed files from Hex to Carrara, I have found that if I convert them to the vertex modeler and then smooth all edges with angles less than 50 degrees, my model is correct. That is what I have done with all the vehicles I modeled in Hexagon and it worked well. Here is a link to the Stingray which was handled this way:
