Back I've used SwishMax and it's pretty good. You do have the ability to write scripts but the version I was using did not create files editable with Flash so if you're planning on moving to Flash you may want to rule this out and just get Flash. I don't know how that relates to Carrara output since I have not researched this.
It was more than adequate for the simple things I had to do at the time. It had many capabilities I did not need. A quick glance at their site convinced me that their products have come a long way since I last use it.
I would say that it is worth the time to investigate. I will do so when I get more time.

Yes, I stopped by Purplus.com, but all they had were tutorial CDs and other accessories...not the program itself. :(
