Not only does 3D allow for reuse of assets (models textures etc.) it
allows people to work with the same style as each other from the
begining. For example, Disney used to hold animators for about 6
months to a years while they are learned to draw the exact same way.
Personal styles would quickly distort animation because the characters
would be changing every other second. With 3D, the characters are
modeled by a select few and the animators do not have to worry about
modeling. Animation is still something that is worked on for
conformity, but that is not as much as an issue as before.
Also, differcult to animate areas, like a head rotation, would be
extremely simple to accomplish in 3D. In Flash, you would have a
series of shape tweens to accomidate things like the nose appearing
and then moving off from the outside outline into the face and back
again into the outside outline.
However, Flash is compact enough to be displayed from the web. 3D
isn't yet there to be replacing Flash anytime soon.
