Hi,
The answers you are getting from the group assume that Carrara is the best
'hammer' for your 'nail'.
I suggest looking at SketchUP - much easier interface and super quick
results - you even feel like you're animating when you rotate the model
around. Check out www.sketchup.com. I use it as a 'front end' modeler for
many of my 3d programs including Carrara.

Subject: [Carrara] Carrara 3D Basics for Middle School

I have been using Carrara 3D Basics 2 in a 3D Animation module in my Middle
School class on Advanced Technology. The class is designed to introduce the
student to 16 different engineering technologies, giving them about two to
three weeks on each one. For my 3D Animation module, the kids find the eight
Quicktour lessons too difficult (and I agree with them). If it had not been
for Carl Desmond, who runs 3DXtract, I would have had to abandon the module
altogther. With his excellent tutorials, the students are able to create
models.

The models do look good but they have been of limited success. The models
are not very exciting nor animated. I need something that 7th Grade students
can do to learn about the exciting world of 3D Animation without getting
turned off by the complexity. I think what I need is a working animated
model that the kids can modify. This way they would not face the daunting
learning curve before ever seeing results. Also, this is an age of instant
gratification and they need to see results quickly.

Should I be using a different software package. Should I not try to
introduce this complex technology to 7th Graders?

I am looking for suggestions, help, assistance, or any comments you can
make.
