Thanks for the replies guys.

Thanks to you both I have made some progress...at least I think
it's progess.

Everything is basically the same as before except that it now does
all this:

> >- I launch the render from the batch renderer (with net rendering
> >checked of course).
> >- The scene file loads on the host machine.
> >- The render starts on the host machine whilst the scene file starts
> >loading on the render node machine.

    And then instead of this:

> >- Once the render node machine finishes loading the scene file it
> >basically stops and does nothing...i.e. no "N" blocks start on the
> >host machine.

I get two "N" blocks showing on the host machine (the render node
it a daul CPU system remember), and then the host machine sits and
waits for those blocks to render...but they never do (don't even start
rendering)...now I say never...but I haven't actually left it any
longer then about 5min...should it take any longer then 5min? (To start
rendering the "N" blocks that is). The scene I'm rendering is a 16sec
animaton with full raytracing...so it's got lots of work to do.

Anyway, now when I abort the render I get basically exactly the
same error message except that there's an IP address between the "()"
in the error.

Now what I've done to achive these changes is, disable AVG
antivirus, install all my plugins on the render node, and I changed the
default port(s) to 6020, 6040, 6060....on both the host and the node...
well the node is 6020 actually...but changing the ports didn't seem to
make any difference...so I'm guessing that the ports aren't the
problem.

Now another question for you...you mentioned a Windows Firewall...
does Windows 2000 have one? Or is that only on XP? (I'm new to Windows
2000 so I really don't know). If it does where do change the settings
for it?

Oh, and here is the info from the Network log...any insight?
Start Rendering:
IP Address: 169.254.152.223
Subnet Mask: 0.0.0.0
Broadcast to: 255.255.255.255
Registering Render Node:  (169.254.96.9)

   Thanks a bunch!!!
