Back A while ago, someone asked about which QT Codec was best for Carrara animation. Here is a list of helpful sites and my conclusions:
http://www.simnet.is/klipklap/quicktime/ (list of which codecs are supported by which players)
http://people.csail.mit.edu/tbuehler/video/codecs/quicktime.html (explanation of different codecs)
http://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/qt_movies_from_fcp.html (explanation of different settings)
Based on this information, the top 3 choices for streaming video are - H264 PRO: best quality/size ratio CON: least compatible, requires QT player 7 or newer - MPEG4 PRO: second best quality/size ratio CON: very compatible, requires QT player 6 or newer - Sorenson Video 3 PRO: good quality/size ratio CON: most compatible, requires QT player 5.02 or newer
I'll use MPEG4 for most of my animation now. But obviously I'll also keep an uncompressed master too.
