INDEPENDENT STAR WARS FILM

INDEPENDENT STAR WARS FILM

Mike,

I just watched it and it was pretty interesting. Acting-wise it was only
marginally worse than Phantom Menace. It's amazing what badness Lucas
can bring out in normally very good actors like McGregor and Neeson.
Shindler's List, Les Miserables, Trainspotting, it was like totally
different actors, anyways I digress.

The story was better, dialog about the same. The CGI was great
considering the amateur talent, it looked nearly as good as any of the
Saturday night movies on the Scifi channel for about 1/50th the cost.
The level of detail didn't seem to be quite as refined as a true
production, but I imagine much of that was a question of time. The
staging of the shots, the cuts, and animation looked really good. There
were only a couple of shots I can remember where I thought that
animation looked rough.

Lighting seems to be the big challenge in these fan films, the live
footage and the virtual set lighting never seems to match, but to give
them credit, it really didn't look much worse than the big production
Dune mini-series on Scifi a few years back.

Thanks for pointing this out. It's neat to be at a time when a
revolution like this is occuring. These days you don't need to be a big
studio to make a movie. A DV camera, a few lights from home depot, a
bucket of green paint, and some off the shelf software is all the
technology you need to make your own scifi movie.

Eric Winemiller
