Back I had first used an NVidia card (5950), and although it was okay for speed, the drivers seemed to be very buggy. I eventually went to an ATI card when I went to my next system.
I think a 5200 card should suffice, but having the latest drivers loaded will be crucial to how it performs. Another tip is keep the hardware accelerator for the video card dropped down one notch from the highest setting; the higher you go, the more buggier it behaves witb many graphic apps., and Carrara is no exception.
