That brings to mind an interesting concept: A light meter plugin object?
You just drop it in the scene and it gives you a real world light reading in lumens (or whatever Carrara is using) from the position where you place it...and it works with rotation and elevation manpulators as well so you you can hone in one directional light sources ans see what you are getting.
Just a thought...
