Thanks Peter. Also, I spoke too soon about how good my model looked. After closer scrutiny in wireframe mode I was able to detect quite a bit of bad geometry. I had vertices that overlapped on a number of edges that had not merged from where I did a mirror. On the surface, everything looked fine in the other programs I was using, but Carrara would have none of these schenanigans without protest.
