Don't know if this is what you are looking for but there is a Scale Modifier found in the Basic Deformations Section (Modifiers > Basic Deformations > Scale) which can scale a grouped object along one, two, or all three axis. There is also a Limits slider which can help tweak where you want to place or start the scaling.
It will also work on single, ungrouped objects.
