Re: Best Model Import Formats into Carrara?

Re: Best Model Import Formats into Carrara?

I agree with the .obj format as being the most universal format.
Carrara can recognize and use any feature that is supported in this
format.

The other types have more issues.

.3DS have the model converted into triangles instead of quads, so
working with the model may not be as intended. Also, I don't think
Carrara recognizes any shading domains and UV Mapping in this format
(because there are a lot of .3ds versions, and Carrara uses/recognizes
an older version of those specificiations).

Maya format can only be opened in Maya (I think, I know Carrara
doesn't support it) and may be NURBS-type information.

Lightwave is good but not as universal as .obj, also Lightwave's
format may contain features that Carrara doesn't support which may or
may not be an issue.

Dxf is similar to .3ds but only very rarely has "normal" directions,
shading domains, and UV mapping applied.  Also, none of those features
from this file-type are supported by Carrara.
