Back Have you tried to make a 2D depth-map (it's like a bump map) image of the wave patterns but using a program like Photoshop and importing that into the landscape editor of Carrara to produce a displacement-mapped object that looks like the ocean waves?
You can do the above with an Anything Grooves object too.
