Hi Ben,
I just tried out the metaball modeler just to see if I could recreate
the problem, however, it seems to be working fine on my end.
Question, have you gone to the Eovia update page and gotten your
update for CS3? The latest version is CS 3.03. Here is the link to
the update site:

If you haven't gotten the latest patch yet, that just may be a cause
to your problem. Outside of that I wouldn't know and would have to
defer to someone else who may be more knowledgeable about this
particular modeler.
