Back Hi K.C.
It's hard for me to envision exactly what your problem is, but one piece of advice is to make sure that you are using the "seamless" feature along with the "tile" feature for your texture maps. I have uploaded two images containing natural wood texture maps that use these features and they bascially look "natural".
1) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Carrara/files/Carrara%20Files_Images%20%20-%20CC /wood1.jpg
2) http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Carrara/files/Carrara%20Files_Images%20%20-%20CC /wood2.jpg
Also, make sure you are using appropriate shinniness/highlight/bump channel values.
Do you mind posting some images of your problem? That would give me and others an idea of what you are looking for.
Cheers.
