Dave,

I have found that if you scale the camera up in size the tracking in
and out is much better.

I just did a test, I changed the units to feet and I changed the
working box size to 200'(x,y,z), in the assembly room I changed my
view to Camera 1 and selected camera 1 from the hierarchy list with
the scaling set to 100% I changed the x,y,z center point for the
camera to 0,0,0. I selected the track xz tool and starting from the
top of the 3dview pane I moved the cursor down and tracked out(in
x,y,z). I can track out a total distance of about 6.5'. If I reset
the camera back to 0,0,0 and change the scale to 1800% the track tool
will now pan out more like 113'.

I usually set up another camera or two way out there with an over all
view of  my scene or multiples from various points. I like to keep
the directors camera close to the details.

Also I may change my grid size and line spacing periodically through
out the "building" process of a scene.
