Thanks Naomi, Steve, Mark for the tips.  They did the trick!  :)

Just one other question: what are the pros and cons of using software
(besides the image backdrop issue) vs. Open GL vs. Eovia software
renders?  My video card is reported to support Open GL quite well so
what would be the advantage/disadvantage of me simply keeping the
setting on Open GL renderer?  And since it is an "interactive
renderer" setting it, really only affects my working views, not my
final image rendering output settings, correct?
