Back Yeah anything grooves would work great...just did a quicky test...
Use an avi file..uncompressed for the animation...it wasn't to intensive either...make sure to place it on an anything grooves object...by inserting an anything grooves primitive...I think it runs smoother that way...plus you can change the preview size..if it is slowing your machine down..
Also the object you are trying to sync up with the wake..I'd change the motion of the object to path and slide through the animation about a quarter at a time..and set the position of the object...throughout the animation
