Lathing Feature in C3-- Step-by-step help?

Lathing Feature in C3-- Step-by-step help?

2004-04-01       - By Chris

Greetings,

I'm having trouble with the lathing tool in C3 and the manual does
not really help in a step-by-step understanding.

Attempt 1:

I create an open polyline for a goblet, select all points for a
goblet, and then select the polyline tool.  It becomes a crosshair.

Eventually if I right and left click it becomes a 12 sectioned
(default) lathe of a goblet.

However I do not get the "Lathe" toolbox menu that appears in
properties in order to define number of sections until after the
lathe is created. [?]

Thus I am stuck with a 12 sectioned lathe without the ability to
change it (to my knowledge, anyway--again the manual does not seem to
help).

Attempt 2:

I create an open polyline, I de-select all points, select polyline
tool...this time I get the "Lathe" toolbox menu (the one that
says "Click an edge to use it as axis of rotation. Use + and - to
adjust definition...etc.") and the cursor becomes a crosshair again,
but I try clicking the polyline edge or use the +/- on numerical
keypad to no effect.

I then selected the selection tool, went back to the lathe tool, and
got a 12 sectioned lathe again.

Can anyone help me with the following: how to create a lathe object
step-by-step where you can use the +/- keys or manually change the
numbers of sections.

I'm having a lot of trouble understanding how it works in Carrara 3.

Thanks!
