Back Hi Shane,
Sorry, should have been a bit more complete. I'm also using a holder mc and just attaching the movies to it. The slowdown is being caused because the mc's hold dynamic textfields.
It's sort of a chat application, but I don't want to use a standard scrolling textfield.

Whenever I have to do something like this...I have a holder mc that I load all my other mc's into and just move the holder mc. I haven't experienced any slowdown with it.

Hi there,
Maybe someone out there can jump in with a few tips before I start messing around with this.
I have to scroll a list of mc's behind a mask. If the list gets to long the scrolling becomes unbearably slow so what I want to do is turn mc's off when they're outside of the mask area and turn them back on when they're behind the mask. Was thinking of just sending the mc's to an empty frame.
I can imagine they way this would work, but I'm looking for something that doesn't nullify the freed-up processor power by constant loops and stuff.
I'm using a pretty standard custom scroller, because skinning the component isn't working out.
Any help and tips are greatly appreciated

Hello! <warning! this message might contain stupid questions>
I want to write an AS2 class that would return a buffer of the last n keys that were pressed. I found a post at onRelease but is in AS1. My main question is this: "how can you instantiate the Key object inside your custom class in order to use it's addListener method?"
