You will, but only partially.  90% of software bugs are mis-spellings.  Mine
too.

Looking back, it's completely obvious of course. And this did solve my
problem.
Seems 90% of my time is spend figuring out I misplaced a period or forgot to
make text a different colour than my background.
Hopefully I'll grow out of that. Thank you for your help.

Kind regards,
Sonja

if _root.character is "jesterxl", and you have a movie clip on _root called
_root.jesterxl, then, this will work:

_root[_root.character].play();

If it's in a movie clip, like your mc_player, then:

_root.mc_player[_root.character].play();

Notice the period placement.

I'm sure there's a rather simple solution to my problem but I seem unable to
find the answer.
I'm working on a game in which you can choose between some characters to
play with. When you choose the number of that character (1, 2 etc.) is saved
in  _root.character.
These characters are placed in a different movieclip named 'mc_player', so,
character 1 on frame 1, with as name '1'.
Now I'm trying to make the character walk. (ie. Play movieclip "1"); I
thought it was done as followed:
_root.mc_player.[_root.character].play();

But that doesn't work. Anyone that can enlighten me about the subject or has
any clues where I can find something about this?

Kind regards,

Sonja
